Storm and Silence

Storm and silence is a book written by a Germany author Rob Their. It explores gender discrimination, lack of opportunities for women in the economic world, feminism and adventure and mostly how women survived in the 17th century when women were viewed as nothing but housewives.

Storm and silence is a historical romance book that revolves around Lillian Linton and Rikkard  Ambrose. Lillian is a nineteen old young girl who is fed up with the societal rules. She lives with her other five sisters and her aunt and uncle. The only thing that her aunt wants is to sell her out to the first rich man that comes asking for her hand despite the age difference. Lillian, fed up with what her aunt wants, forms a group with other of her female friends to fight against the growing chauvinism in the Victorian cities. During one of the elections, she disguises herself as a man and goes to vote. During this period she is able to help Rikkard Ambrose, the richest man in Britain from making a big mistake and she is employed as his secretary. But Mr Ambrose is not willing to employ her as a girl. What does Lillian need to do in order to get herself out of any man's claw who wants to marry her? She is a strong independent woman, and she is not willing to a shame any woman.

There are times when words are not enough to explain our own feelings and those raging emotions inside us. Storm and silence is more beyond instructive, entertaining,memorable, interesting and all those words you need when explaining to someone how a long intense bear hug feels.

Here are some of the conversations;

" Once more, I beg a thousand pardons. Everything I have, everything I am is at your disposal. What do you wish to see? I have some very fine waistcoats, just came in yesterday from France. Very expensive, but the best,the very best. Please,let me show you..."

"I'm not here to buy waistcoats." Mr Ambrose cut him off. "I'm here..." He paused for a moment gathering his strength, I would imagine. "I'm here to pay for a dress for this man's sister. One dress. As pretty and inexpensive as possible."

        Part 2

"You are incorrigible,Mr Linton." He told me,his voice low, tight, controlled. "Why didn't you do the sensible thing and run?"

My frown deepened into a scowl. "The men didn't run . They fought."

"Because that's what they're paid to do! You're paid to stay alive! To stay safe!"

This book is full of quotes and wise saying;

"I would prefer a duel to fight a duel but a pen to plan a war. "

"A wise man trusts, but always verifies. "

"Knowledge is power is time is money. "

This two had to be combined in order to save on time.

Storm and silence is a projectwomanup that shows the struggles women had to go through during earlier times, how they were expected to live and what men took them for. I love this book a lot because it has helped and provided me with a new insight on how a girl should live and be. There are no restrictions to whatever I want to be in this world. Even though everyone around me tries to discourage me that that what I want is not for me but for men I should not listen to them. Lillian was the first woman to receive a paycheck at the end of the month in their whole country. She knew what she wanted and she fought for it, not caring if she had to do it under the pretence of a man. Go for what you want.

Grab your own copy and be ready to have the pages torn, because once you have it, you are never going to let it down.

  1. This is my favorite book of all. I love this girl Lilly and her brave ways. The first time she is in a shop trying to figure out if people will realise she is female. She is wearing her uncle Burford's old trousers.
    That day, she swore that she had to vote. She first encounters with Mr Rikkard Ambrose who is to be her employer.
    When he offers the job, the girl says that she is not fit for it. But we are talking about Mr Ambrose, he takes no for an answer.
    Later when she goes to vote, she casts her vote but she curtisied instead of bowing. Blast! She got arrested for good manners and spent a night in the cell.

    If you still haven't read this, you are missing out a lot of fun.
